Hello again, Calvary Crook County family!
We are getting really excited about the upcoming Home Group season, which starts October 6th. This year we will be changing things up a bit and we want you to be fully aware of the changes.
This season we’ll be holding Home Groups every Wednesday night at 6:30. (After Home Groups begin there will be no Wednesday night church service at the church.)

Now that we’ve got a good feel for how many people will be attending home groups, this coming Sunday, September 12th, we’ll have our individual groups ready for you to sign-up for them in the church lobby. (look for the awesome Home Groups poster we’ve designed, and the sign-up forms will be below that.)

If you have any further questions regarding Home Groups, please don’t hesitate to ask!

If you’re planning on attending a home group this year and you still haven’t signed up on the original sign up, please fill out the form below and submit it to us. This will help us better facilitate the number of groups we’ll have this year. This year promises to be the best year yet for home groups, so don’t miss out!

Just come!

Cleaning Ministry: Do You Have What It Takes?

August 10, 2010 by Stewart

Calling all neat-freaks! No, just kidding. Really, we’re calling on anyone who considers themselves a member of Calvary Chapel of Crook County, and desires to serve and bless the church.
We are facing a bit of a shortage on cleaning crew people. This is due to people moving and some going away to school. It leaves us in need of cleaning help, once again.

If you consider yourself to be more of a “Behind-the-scenes” kind of a person, than this is a great opportunity to serve without feeling like you’re going to have a panic attack because you’ll be doing public speaking!

We divide the cleaning into two sections; the front section of the church and the back section. You would be cleaning one or the other. We have two cleaning days available: Wednesday and Saturday. These days are set up so that the church is clean before Wednesday and Sunday services. Beginning in October we will move to only ONE cleaning day a week, on Saturdays.  The Total time most people end up devoting is usually less than 1 hour per week. (Some have been able to get things finished in as little as 20 minutes!)

So if you are a faithful servant of Jesus, then we want you! Reply to this posting by sending an email to Stewart White, with the form below.

Pray and Fast with Us On Thursdays

Pray and Fast on ThursdaysJoin the staff of Calvary Chapel of Crook County as we pray and fast on Thursdays in anticipation of our night of prayer at “The Pulse”.
We will be fasting until after the Pulse each Thursday.  This is a great way to join us in seeking the Lord, and to see what He will do!

Whether you can make it to the Pulse or not, we still encourage you to see if the Lord would have you join us for fasting. We had an amazing time during our seven day fast in February of this year, and it was awesome to see the ways that people were changed because of it.

Also, don’t miss out on the Pulse every Thursday night from 6pm-7:30pm. Prayer is such a vital part to any church body, and we want to make sure we are taking every opportunity to pray as a body.

If you’d like some more information on Fasting, we still have a couple of books available from our seven day fast. They are just $7.00 . You could even read and then share it with someone else.  The title is “God’s Chosen Fast”.

Use the comment area below to post any questions related to fasting and prayer.

In the 5th week of our doctrine series, we take a look at the doctrine known as “Imago Dei”, or “Image of God”. We hit the street to see what some people thought about the Biblical concept that mankind was created in God’s image and likeness. See one person’s answers in the video below.

Books You Should Read

June 22, 2010 by Stewart

We wanted to make some links available to those of you who are interested in digging deeper into a few of the topics we’ve been studying lately.

The first is a link to the book “Living Water” by Pastor Chuck Smith, where he teaches on the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer. If you’ve been coming on Sunday mornings, then you know that we’ve recently started the book of Acts, which illustrates the amazing power of the Holy Spirit in the early church.
If you’re interested in that, click the image of the book:

The Second book we highly recommend is called, “How to Pray” and it’s written by R.A. Torrey. During our Thursday night prayer meetings we’ve been reading a chapter each week, and we’ve thoroughly enjoyed being challenged by this wonderful book. It will truly challenge and convict you in your prayer life!

Doctrine Video: Week 4

In week four of our doctrine series, we took a look at the fundamental belief that God is creator, and he created everything.

Prior to the study, we showed a clip from a debate that Mike Huckabee took part in, in 2007.  In the video he is asked about his belief in a creator. You can watch it below.

Calling All Servants of Jesus

June 16, 2010 by Stewart

Calling All Servants of JesusIf you don’t already know, most of Calvary Chapel of Crook County is staffed and run by volunteers serving Jesus in various areas in the church. Much of what we do wouldn’t be possible without people who are humbly willing to serve and bless the body of Christ, the church.
Consequently, we are always in need of more humble servants of Jesus! Sometimes we are in need because more ministry opportunities arise, and other times we are in need because people are unaware of the needs of the body. Moreover, sometimes we are in need because, quite frankly, people aren’t serving. This is either because they don’t care to serve, the just don’t want to serve, or they don’t see themselves as being a part of the body of Christ. Whatever the case may be, when the body isn’t working together for the good of itself, it becomes unhealthy and in need of improvement.
Here at Calvary we find ourselves in one of those times of need. We have more opportunities to minister and serve than we have servants, or so it would seem. Hopefully we would all desire to serve the body of Christ because we are so moved by the way that our great God and Savior came and served us, through his fully human yet sinless life, His atoning and agonizing death for our sin, and His incredible resurrection wherein he conquered and showed Himself as conquerer of our three great enemies, Satan, sin, and death. Jesus Himself said that a servant is never greater than His master, and if He is our master then we shouldn’t consider any service he performed to be below us. Jesus love us and gave Himself for us as a sacrifice. Jesus washed His own disciples feet. Jesus is our Savior. Never should one ask the question, “Why should I serve”. Rather, we should all ask ourselves, “Why wouldn’t I serve such a great God and Savior?!”

With that question in mind, we want to make some opportunities available to anyone and everyone in the church body who loves Jesus.

  1. In our Audio/Visual department (the people who are running the sound, video, and lights during service), we could use 2-4 more volunteers. We will be losing one volunteer to college, and we would like to start training up more to fill that role. Additionally, having a few more servants of Jesus to help us out in that area would greatly reduce the amount of days each person would have to serve from month to month.
  2. Our children’s ministry has been struggling lately because we haven’t had enough teachers for classes. On Wednesday nights, in fact, we’ve scaled back to only have nursery and 3-5′s care, ultimately because of the lack of teachers.
  3. Our church cleaning crew had dwindled down so far that we didn’t have anyone to clean the church on Saturday in order to ready it for Sunday. We’ve had a few people step up, but we can always use more.

In all of these things, we don’t tell you them in order to guilt trip you, but to tell you that you have an opportunity to serve Jesus. Perhaps you haven’t really thought about these areas as being ways to directly serve Jesus. We are here to tell you that serving Jesus is all about loving Him and loving people. Your heart’s attitude truly determines your effectiveness in service. Jesus told His disciples that if they wanted to be the greatest in the kingdom then they need to learn to be the servant of all. No doubt, those were peculiar words to the disciples at that time, but after Jesus’ ascension into heaven, we see that it all made perfect sense to them, as they willingly laid down their lives in order to serve people by bringing the truth and power of the gospel to them, so that they too could receive salvation and know and love Jesus.
